Chicago Massacre: Richard Speck Interview - Movie Jungle
June 13 2007
Question:
When did you get the call for this and did you know much about Richard Speck?
Corin Nemec:
"Well I knew about Richard Speck to a greater or lesser degree just as kind of a name of one of the many psychopaths that have been born out of our culture. When I got the script I actually thought that this was going to be far more of a really bloody, gratuitous slasher film and as I started reading it I got more and more excited to find that it's more of a character study than anything else. So I got extremely excited from an acting stand point and jumped on board really quickly."
Question:
What about research for this project?
Corin Nemec:
"Well I got the job within a couple of days from the first day of shooting so really the only thing that I got to do in preparation was basically read online about Richard Speck's life. You know Wikipedia is...I love that site." I basically did a little Wikipedia research and you know, having been raised in the south, born in Arkansas, lived in Tennessee and Georgia then had a place in Texas for five, six years outside Houston, you know, I'm familiar with this type of person. I'm not saying that the people in the south are psychotic, there's more a slow, casual personality to individuals from the south, especially your real blue collar workers. That's what I went to, you know, create the personality of the southern guy and the rest would fall into place."
