Lampooning of U.S. Healthcare is Just What the Doctors Ordered - National Lampoon Press Release
November 17 2009
Sleazy lawyers and heartless insurance companies are only a few of those spoofed in National Lampoon Presents RoboDoc, coming to DVD on November 24th. Penned and produced by two practicing medical doctors and brothers, Doug and Scott Gordon, the film takes aim at what is ailing our modern healthcare system, and proposes a unique solution: Robotic doctors.
"It's so easy to get overwhelmed by roiling healthcare debate," says Tom Daniels, National Lampoon's president of distribution, who bought the right to distribute the film long before the issue became so prominent. "Everyone's timing was great on this," he added, "ROBODOC is a great way to laugh instead of scream 'make it stop!'"
According to Dr. Doug Gordon, "This movie is our way of making a statement from the inside. It is my hope that laughter could be the best medicine for America's healthcare delivery system." Dr. Scott Gordon takes it a bit further, "With increasing government and health insurance bureaucracy, decreased reimbursements and increasing patient loads, we predict there will be a severe physician shortage that will ultimately only be overcome by the widespread use of robotic doctors. We can only hope they will be as good as RoboDoc."
National Lampoon Presents RoboDoc stars Alan Thicke (Growing Pains), David Faustino (Married with Children), David DeLuise (Wizards of Waverly Place), Corin Nemec (Parker Lewis Can't Lose), Michael Winslow (Police Academy), John Byner (Soap) and features William Haze (One Tree Hill) as RoboDoc. The film was co-produced by Donald Tynes and directed by Stephen Maddocks. RoboDoc is being distributed by National Lampoon.
